FAQs
The wavelength of laser we use is attracted to melanin. The pigment (melanin) in the hair absorbs the laser, which uses the hair as a canal to reach the root of the follicle. The follicle is heated to 70 degrees, which kills the germ cells and permanently damages the follicle – therefore prohibiting any future hair growth.
Yes, laser hair removal permanently reduces your hair. It can remove anything between 80-100% of all hair – any remaining hair is often light and fluffy. At 5000W, the machine we use is the most powerful on the market, therefore any successfully targeted hair follicles are permanently damaged.
Most people will need between 8-12 sessions to permanently reduce the hair. The average amount of sessions required is 8-10, however this can vary dependent on your individual hormones. Yearly top ups (1-2 sessions) may be required as hormonal changes can result in new hair growth.
At any one time, you will only have between 10% and 30% of hairs in growth stage, this is the only stage that the hairs can be targeted. This is why you will need numerous sessions in order to target all of the hairs in each new hair cycle.
Your laser treatments should be between 4 and 10 weeks apart. This depends entirely on the treatment area and how your hair is responding to the laser treatment – you will be given specific advice during your consultation appointment.
White, red and grey hairs cannot be treated as they lack melanin. Any blonde hairs have to be at least darker than the skin tone and must have a degree of brown pigment for the laser to be effective. We can assess your hair type and colour at your consultation and tell you whether the laser will work on them – we will not waste your time or money if we know the hair colour is too fair.
The chill tip on our machine keeps the surface of the skin at a constant five degrees. This protects the skin and makes the treatment a lot more comfortable than most laser systems. The sensation of our laser is often described as a pulling or snapping feeling around the hairs. You shouldn’t feel any intense pain throughout your treatment.
You will need to wait a minimum of 3 months post pregnancy – and post breastfeeding if this applies – before receiving laser hair removal. This will allow your hormones to regulate.
